Travelers in Italy are expected to face disruptions on Wednesday, May 28, as strikes by taxi drivers and airport workers are set to take place in several cities across the country.
Taxi Strike
Taxi drivers in a number of Italian cities are planning a 24-hour strike, though the action is not expected to be nationwide. The cities affected include Rome, Naples, Turin, and Lamezia Terme. In Bari, the strike will be limited to 12 hours, running from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Air Travel
Airports in Milan may experience delays due to a planned four-hour walkout by baggage handlers at both Malpensa and Linate airports. The strike is scheduled from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
EasyJet Staff Walkout
Further potential disruption to air travel may come from flight attendants and pilots employed by easyJet, who are also set to strike between 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The industrial action involves staff based in Italy and is expected to affect a number of scheduled flights.
Passengers flying with easyJet are advised to check their flight status directly with the airline before heading to the airport.
Italy’s civil aviation authority, ENAC, has reminded passengers that certain time windows are protected during strikes. All flights, including charter services, are guaranteed between 7:00–10:00 a.m. and 6:00–9:00 p.m.
