In the picturesque city of Turin, Italy, Hollywood icon Johnny Depp has embarked on a cinematic journey into the tumultuous life of renowned artist Amedeo Modigliani. Currently, the streets of Turin serve as the backdrop for scenes in “Modì,” a biopic chronicling the enigmatic painter and sculptor’s existence. Italian heartthrob Riccardo Scamarcio steps into the titular role, while the esteemed Al Pacino embodies the character of Maurice Gangnat, a revered art collector. French actor Pierre Niney joins the cast as fellow artist Maurice Utrillo.
Adapted from Dennis McIntyre’s stage play, “Modì” transports viewers to the heart of Paris in 1916, capturing a pivotal 48-hour period in Modigliani’s tumultuous life. Under Depp’s direction, the film promises to weave a narrative tapestry rich in emotion and artistic fervor.
Behind the scenes, producer Barry Navidi marshals a stellar ensemble cast, including Stephen Graham, Luisi Ranieri, and Sally Phillips, to bring Modigliani’s world to life on the silver screen.
For Depp, “Modì” marks a return to the director’s chair after a hiatus of 27 years since his last directorial endeavor, “The Brave,” which saw him share the screen with the legendary Marlon Brando.
As whispers of Depp’s presence reverberate through Turin, speculation mounts that the actor may use his time in the city to explore an exhibition dedicated to the works of Tim Burton, the visionary director with whom Depp has collaborated on numerous occasions.
In Turin’s artistic enclave, Depp and his fellow cast and crew endeavor to capture the essence of Modigliani’s legacy, breathing new life into the artist’s story with each frame of celluloid.
