Friuli Venezia Giulia has launched a regional environmental education program featuring workshops, seminars and outdoor activities aimed at promoting environmental awareness among students, teachers and the wider public.

The Regional Environmental Education Days, organized by the regional environmental protection agency, Arpa FVG, and the Regional Network, will run through Nov. 7 under the theme “Taking Care.”

Regional Environment Councillor Fabio Scoccimarro said the initiative seeks to encourage shared responsibility for protecting the natural environment, emphasizing the role of education and scientific communication in addressing climate change and other environmental challenges.

Activities include school workshops on meteorology, climate change, biodiversity, invasive species and wildfire prevention; university seminars on ecosystem services; and a hackathon focused on science communication. Families and the public can also take part in nature excursions and other community activities.

Events will take place at venues across the region, including natural parks, museums and educational institutions.

The program will conclude on Nov. 7 at the University of Trieste with a regional conference, “Taking Care: Us, Nature and a Web of Relationships.” The event will feature anthropologist Adriano Favole, presentations of school projects and 16 thematic workshops.

The conference will also revisit the San Marco school camp held in Ospedaletto in the summer of 1976, following the earthquake that devastated parts of the region.
