The regional government of Friuli Venezia Giulia has approved an additional €28 million in amendments to its midyear budget adjustment, directing funding toward economic development, renewable energy, transport infrastructure, schools, culture and sports.

The new allocations do not increase the overall value of the budget package, which exceeds €1 billion, but redistribute previously approved resources across regional departments.

Regional Finance Councillor Barbara Zilli said the measures were designed to strengthen the region’s long-term competitiveness by supporting businesses, advancing the energy transition, improving infrastructure and investing in public services.

The largest share of the new funding, €9.2 million, is earmarked for environmental protection, sustainable development and energy initiatives. The package includes support for renewable energy communities, energy-efficiency upgrades for municipal and university buildings, flood-risk mitigation projects and assistance for relocating privately situated electrical substations.

An additional €5 million will be provided to public transport operator TPL FVG to expand renewable energy production for hydrogen generation, storage and refueling facilities. The investment is intended to support the growth of the region’s fleet of hydrogen-powered buses, including intercity services.

Economic development measures total €6.4 million, including funding for investment programs managed by the regional chambers of commerce and incentives for companies seeking to establish or expand operations in the region.

Infrastructure projects will receive €6.6 million. The funding includes investments to strengthen ports, logistics and combined freight transport, as well as the construction of a cycling hub at Trieste Airport ahead of the 2027 EuroVelo & Cycling Tourism Conference. Additional resources have been allocated for upgrades to school facilities in Tolmezzo.

The budget also sets aside €5.2 million for culture and sports, including investments in regional cultural heritage, modernization of sports facilities and improvements linked to preparations for the European Youth Olympic Festival.

The amendments also include provisions allowing regional funding for school construction projects to continue if national financing through Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) or related programs is withdrawn. In addition, the region has authorized participation in a €7 million capital increase for Friulia, the regional financial company, to strengthen strategic subsidiaries, including Interporto Trieste and Finest.

Regional officials said the measures are intended to reinforce investment in key sectors while supporting sustainable growth and long-term development across Friuli Venezia Giulia.
