The British pop band Duran Duran will perform on July 11 at Villa Manin, a historic estate in the northeastern Italian region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, marking one of three Italian stops on the group’s summer tour.
Regional officials said the concert, to be held in the hamlet of Passariano near the town of Codroipo, will serve as a lead-up event to celebrations tied to Pordenone’s designation as Italy’s Capital of Culture for 2027.
“This is an event of major significance for the region,” said Massimiliano Fedriga, the president of Friuli Venezia Giulia, in a statement released Monday. He described the band as one that has “crossed generations and borders,” leaving a lasting mark on global pop culture.
The concert is part of the “GoToPordenone&Friends” cultural program, a series of events intended to raise the profile of the area ahead of the 2027 cultural designation. Regional authorities say hosting internationally known artists is part of a broader strategy to position Friuli Venezia Giulia as a destination for large-scale cultural and live-music productions.
Villa Manin, an 18th-century complex best known as the former residence of the last Doge of Venice, has increasingly been used as a venue for major concerts and festivals. Officials say its expansive grounds and historical setting make it particularly suited for large outdoor performances.
Formed in Birmingham in the late 1970s, Duran Duran rose to international prominence in the 1980s with hits that helped define the era’s pop sound. The band has continued to tour and release new material, maintaining a multigenerational audience decades after its debut.
