Trieste Trasporti has announced a series of temporary changes to local bus services in connection with Carnival events in Muggia and the upcoming school holiday period.
Adjustments for Muggia Carnival
From Thursday, February 12, through Tuesday, February 17, 2026, modifications will affect routes serving the Muggia area during evening hours.
Beginning at 6 p.m. each day, buses on Line 20 heading toward Muggia will be rerouted via Via Trieste. The line’s terminus will be relocated to Piazzale Alto Adriatico. On Sunday, February 15, however, the terminus change will take effect later, starting at 8 p.m.
Line 49/, which also serves Muggia, will undergo similar changes. From 6 p.m., buses traveling toward Muggia will pass through Via Trieste before reversing direction, continuing to the Rotonda Ospo, crossing the Santa Barbara overpass, and then resuming their regular route.
Trieste Trasporti staff will be present at Piazzale Alto Adriatico to assist passengers with boarding and alighting during the period of the rerouting.
The changes are tied to Carnival initiatives taking place in Muggia, a coastal town near Trieste known for its annual celebrations.
Non-School Weekday Schedule During Carnival Break
In addition, Trieste Trasporti said that from February 16 through February 18, 2026, a non-school weekday schedule will be in effect across its entire network. The adjustment coincides with the closure of schools, as established by the regional calendar for the Carnival holiday period.
During those three days, bus services will operate according to the Saturday timetable. One exception is Line 23, which connects Piazzale Wärtsilä (Dolina) with Largo Città di Santos (near the central railway station). Although it does not normally run on Saturdays, Line 23 will operate on its standard schedule during this period.
Lines 55, 56, 57, and 58 will be suspended for the three days.
The revised service plan has been authorized by the Friuli Venezia Giulia region and follows a similar adjustment implemented during the recent Christmas holidays. Regular winter service is scheduled to resume on Thursday, February 19.
Updated timetables are available through the Tpl Fvg and Glimble Fvg mobile apps, on the Trieste Trasporti website, and via the travel planner on the Tpl Fvg site.
