Under clear winter skies and with unseasonably mild temperatures, Friuli Venezia Giulia feels momentarily suspended between seasons. This Sunday, February 1, the national Domenica al Museo initiative opens the doors of state and municipal museums free of charge, from Trieste’s civic collections to the stately rooms of Miramare Castle. Culture, in other words, comes without a ticket. The timing could not be better. Across the region, the weather invites wandering — along the seafront, through historic centers, and into museums usually saved for quieter days. We spoke with visitors and locals in Trieste about how they plan to spend a weekend that feels like an early gift of spring.
