The regional government of Friuli Venezia Giulia has announced a new funding program of over €4 million to help residents replace outdated, high-emission wood-burning heating systems with cleaner alternatives.
The program will provide grants of up to €4,000 for the replacement of low-efficiency biomass boilers with high-performance biomass units or electric heat pumps. Smaller grants, up to €3,000, are available for stoves and fireplaces, with higher amounts reserved for areas that have exceeded legal air pollution limits in recent years.
Officials said the initiative is part of a broader effort to improve air quality by reducing emissions of harmful pollutants, including benzo[a]pyrene, without imposing penalties on residents.
Eligible applicants are homeowners or legal occupants of residential properties in the region. Applications must be submitted online through the regional portal, and expenses incurred up to six months prior to the application are eligible for reimbursement.
The program builds on a previous initiative in 2024–2025, which funded the replacement of more than 1,400 high-emission heating systems. The region expects to supplement its own funding with €3.5 million from Italy’s Ministry for the Environment and Energy Security.
