The University of Trieste will join the global Movember campaign on Nov. 10, hosting an event aimed at raising awareness around men’s physical and mental health and encouraging preventive care across age groups.

The afternoon program, held in the Aula Magna of Building D on the university’s main campus at Piazzale Europa, is part of “Novembre Azzurro,” Italy’s broader monthlong focus on men’s health. Speakers will include university faculty, health professionals, and local sports figures such as basketball player Daniele Cavaliero of Pallacanestro Trieste and water-polo athlete Andrea Razzi of Pallanuoto Trieste. Opening remarks will be delivered by Rector Donata Vianelli and regional health officials.

Discussions will address cancer risks and mental-health challenges faced by men, with a particular emphasis on lifestyle factors including balanced nutrition and regular physical activity. According to national health data, men in Italy experience a slightly higher rate of new cancer diagnoses than women. While prostate and testicular cancers are among the most common in men, early diagnosis significantly improves outcomes — a point the initiative seeks to reinforce.

As part of the program, the university will introduce “Trattati bene UniTS,” a new wellness initiative coordinated by Giovanni Liguori, professor in the Department of Medical, Surgical and Health Sciences and director of the Urology Clinic at ASUGI. In collaboration with the Trieste chapter of the Italian League for the Fight Against Cancer (LILT), the university will offer more than 100 free urological and andrological screenings to employees and their family members. Reservations are open through Nov. 20 via an online form.

To mark the campaign, the university’s central building will be illuminated in blue throughout the week of Nov. 10, a visual reminder of the importance of awareness and early prevention in men’s health.
