Trieste will observe the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women on November 25 with a public installation aimed at raising awareness among the city’s youngest residents. The initiative, titled “A Garden of Pinwheels: The Wind of Change Against Violence,” is organized by the municipal Department of Education and Family Policies in partnership with the Bora Museum.
The event will bring together nursery schools, kindergartens, and primary and lower-secondary schools across the city. In Piazza Unità d’Italia, students will contribute to the creation of a symbolic “garden” of red pinwheels. The display is intended to represent the need for cultural and social change at a time when incidents of violence — and the age of those involved — are drawing increasing concern in Italy.
Each participating school will be assigned a pinwheel bearing its name. A short message, provided by the students and teachers, will accompany the installation, reflecting reflections on the theme of preventing violence and promoting respect. Schools are invited to submit their chosen phrase, no longer than 100 characters, by November 7, 2025, to segreteria.cpo@comune.trieste.it.
The public display will culminate in a gathering in Piazza Unità d’Italia at approximately 11 a.m. on November 25. City officials say a detailed program will follow in the coming weeks.
