The popular Opicina market “Un Pozzo di Occasioni” will return on Saturday, October 25, under the organization of the cultural association Cose di Vecchie Case. Scheduled for every fourth Saturday of the month through the end of 2025, the market will be open from 8 a.m. with free admission.

The event showcases a curated selection of small antiques, modern collectibles, artisanal crafts, and handmade creations, drawing vendors from across the Friuli Venezia Giulia region. It is held in collaboration with the Municipality of Trieste and aims to revitalize Opicina’s Carso village, attract visitors from the city, and support local businesses through increased foot traffic.

As in previous editions, the market will feature an array of small antiques, modern collectibles, and memorabilia, including vintage records, comic books, miniatures, and scale models. Artisans and hobbyists will also display wood, glass, and ceramic creations, decorated plates, pressed-flower paintings, colored stone figures, glassware, lacework, crochet, jewelry in stone and copper, Murano glass, handcrafted soaps, wooden plaques, and painted silk items.

The market’s name references its proximity to the Zinzendorf Stele, located at the intersection of Strada per Vienna and Via di Prosecco, near the site of a historic well. Karl von Zinzendorf, governor of Trieste from 1776 to 1782, designed a major commercial route connecting the city to the Carso plateau and beyond to Vienna. At Opicina, he established a post station and a stone cistern to provide water to residents, commemorated today at the Orto Lapidario.

The next market, weather permitting, will be held on November 22; strong rain or wind may lead to its cancellation.
