As cooler temperatures approach, the Municipality of Trieste has issued a reminder to residents about the official regulations governing the use of domestic heating systems. The announcement follows a wave of inquiries from citizens seeking clarity on when they may legally turn on their heating.
Under national regulations (Article 4 of D.P.R. 74/2013), Trieste is classified within climatic zone E. In this category, heating systems may be operated from October 15 to April 15 each year, for up to 14 hours per day between 5 a.m. and 11 p.m.
Outside of this period, heating may only be used in the event of particularly cold weather, without requiring special authorization. However, usage is limited to a maximum of seven hours per day, and indoor temperatures must not exceed 20–22°C (68–72°F).
The city’s reminder aims to ensure that residents remain both comfortable and compliant with national energy efficiency and environmental standards as the colder months draw near.
