Running from late August to early September, the Venice Film Festival has once again confirmed itself as the beating heart of international cinema. This year, Friuli Venezia Giulia finds itself at the center of the action.
With three productions tied to its land, culture, and people, the northeastern Italian region is not merely offering cinematic backdrops — it is contributing stories rooted in its own identity.
On Friday, with the festival nearing its close, we spoke with Alan Viezzoli of Radio Attività Trieste about what the event means for local cinema. “For Friuli Venezia Giulia, Venice is not only a showcase but also a chance to be recognized as a true creative hub,” he said.
Asked which films festivalgoers in Trieste should keep an eye out for, Viezzoli pointed to Paolo Sorrentino’s latest work and Kathryn Bigelow’s new film, both among the festival’s most anticipated premieres.
As the red carpets roll up this weekend, the region leaves Venice with more than just acclaim — it leaves with momentum.
