Massimiliano Fedriga, governor of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, has been ranked the most popular regional governor in the country, according to a new poll conducted by the Italian financial daily Il Sole 24 Ore.

The annual survey, known as the “Governance Poll,” places Fedriga at the top of the list with a public approval rating of 66.5 percent, an increase from 64.2 percent recorded the previous year.

Among mayors in the same region, Alberto Felice De Toni of Udine received the highest ranking, placing 25th nationally with a 56 percent approval rating. Gorizia’s mayor, Rodolfo Ziberna, followed in 34th place with 55 percent. Trieste Mayor Roberto Dipiazza came in at 73rd, with an approval rating of 50 percent.

Alessandro Basso, the newly elected mayor of Pordenone, did not appear in this year’s ranking due to the timing of his election.

The Governance Poll surveys citizens’ satisfaction with their regional and local leaders, and is seen as a key indicator of political sentiment across Italy.
