Interview: FVG governor, Massimiliano Fedriga; Owner of Udinese, Giampaolo Pozzo; Jonathan Milan, Olympic champion and Giro d’Italia stage winner from Friuli Venezia Giulia, will serve as the event’s local ambassador
The city of Udine and the broader Friuli Venezia Giulia region are preparing to welcome one of European football’s most prestigious fixtures: the UEFA Super Cup. Scheduled for Wednesday, August 13, the match will take place at Udine’s Stadio Friuli and will see Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain face off against Europa League champions Tottenham Hotspur. Kick-off is set for 9:00 p.m. local time.
This marks the first time the UEFA Super Cup—traditionally a single-match competition between the winners of Europe’s top two club tournaments—will be held in Italy under its current format. The match is expected to attract millions of viewers around the world and bring significant international attention to the host city and region.
A wide array of cultural and promotional initiatives are planned in the lead-up to the event, extending beyond Udine to other towns across Friuli Venezia Giulia. These include special offers on local attractions such as free or discounted entry to museums for ticket holders. The initiatives are the result of coordinated efforts by PromoTurismoFVG, the Friuli Venezia Giulia Regional Government, the Municipality of Udine, the Italian Football Federation (FIGC), and UEFA.
The event and its associated programs were officially presented today, June 30, during a press conference held at Stadio Friuli. Speakers included Friuli Venezia Giulia Regional President Massimiliano Fedriga, Udine Mayor Alberto Felice De Toni, and representatives from UEFA and the FIGC.
Officials emphasized the region’s readiness to host a global audience, highlighting both the logistical preparations and the opportunity to showcase Friuli Venezia Giulia’s cultural and tourism potential. The Super Cup is being framed not just as a sporting event, but as a platform for regional promotion on the international stage.
