Nearly 700,000 residents of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region have obtained a regional fuel discount card, with close to 100,000 already using the new digital version, regional officials announced Tuesday during a session of the Fourth Commission of the Regional Council.

The figures, presented by Regional Councillor for Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development Fabio Scoccimarro, reflect what he described as “a concrete path of modernization” aimed at simplifying daily life through digital tools. “This shows the Region’s capacity to promote innovation,” he said, highlighting the adoption of the “QRFvg Carburanti” app, which enables digital access to the longstanding regional fuel discount.

In addition to citizen uptake, Scoccimarro reported strong progress in updating fuel distribution infrastructure. Out of 435 fuel stations across the region, 411 are now equipped with digital POS systems capable of reading QR codes, allowing users of the digital card to access discounts seamlessly. “This is a significant result,” he said, “and a testament to the strong collaboration between the Regional Administration and local operators.”

While the digital rollout is gaining momentum, Scoccimarro emphasized that no deadline has been set for discontinuing the physical card. “In order to ensure that all segments of the population are supported,” he stated, “the traditional physical card will remain available, guaranteeing access to the benefit regardless of digital proficiency.”

Communication campaigns are underway to inform residents about the new system and assist them with the transition, in line with the Region’s stated commitment to an inclusive and accessible technological shift.

The regional fuel discount is a long-running initiative aimed at offsetting the impact of higher fuel prices in border areas, and it remains a key economic measure for many local residents.
