The Porto Vecchio – Porto Vivo redevelopment project in Trieste has been recognized as one of the world’s top 10 urban regeneration initiatives by the industry publication Real FDI. The project, the only one from Italy to receive this distinction, was presented at the MIPIM international real estate fair in Cannes, where it attracted significant interest from potential investors.
The redevelopment plan, which involves a €620 million investment by the Costim Group, aims to transform the historic Porto Vecchio waterfront into a modern commercial, cultural, and residential district. The Municipality of Trieste and the Ursus Consortium outlined the project’s development plans and confirmed that an international tender will be launched this year under a public-private partnership model.
Lucia Albano, Italy’s Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance, visited the Trieste exhibition space at MIPIM and praised the project. “This initiative is not just about urban regeneration but also about economic, tourism, and environmental development,” she said.
Trieste’s Mayor, Roberto Dipiazza, expressed optimism about investor interest, calling the project’s recognition “a major success” and highlighting its potential to boost the city’s economy. Public Works Councillor Elisa Lodi emphasized the strong public-sector commitment to the project, while Councillor Everest Bertoli, responsible for project financing, noted that the approved plan is now moving toward the final investment phase.
MIPIM, one of the most influential real estate fairs in the world, hosted over 300 exhibitors and 20,000 delegates from 90 countries this year. The Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, through its Select Friuli Venezia Giulia agency, also showcased its broader real estate portfolio, positioning the Porto Vecchio – Porto Vivo project as a flagship initiative.
