The picturesque city of Trieste will witness the conclusion of the filming for “La Primavera,” a poignant new feature directed by Toni Trupia, on Saturday, June 8. The film, featuring an ensemble cast led by Ludovica Francesconi, Luca Lionello, Giuseppe Scoditti, Antonio Piovanelli, Mariella Fenoglio, Daniela Scarlatti, and Lorenzo Acquaviva, marks a significant cultural collaboration, supported by the Friuli Venezia Giulia Film Commission – PromoTurismoFVG and the Ministry of Culture.

“La Primavera” is a co-production by Roma Piazza di Spagna Production and Filmin’Tuscany, in association with Morocco Movie Group, and will be distributed by Minerva Pictures. While the majority of the film’s scenes were shot in Morocco, several key sequences were captured in Trieste, showcasing locations such as the San Giacomo district, Porto Piccolo, and Via Belpoggio. This afternoon, the crew is stationed at the historic Rocca di Monrupino – Tabor, adding a final touch to the film’s diverse settings.

The narrative of “La Primavera” centers around Emma, a young and reticent teacher from Trieste, portrayed by Francesconi. Emma’s life is upended by the death of her mother, leading her to discover an old diary that reveals her true parentage. She learns that she is the daughter of Said, a mysterious Moroccan musician with whom her mother had a fleeting but passionate affair twenty-five years prior. Driven by a desire to uncover her roots and understand her identity, Emma embarks on a journey to Morocco. This transformative voyage becomes a path of self-discovery and empowerment, underscoring the themes of courage and personal rebirth.

The screenplay, co-written by Trupia and Enrico Saccà, is complemented by the artistic contributions of Paolo Ferrari (cinematography), Rachele Meliadò (set design), and Alessandro Lai (costumes).

Toni Trupia, born in 1979, steps into his second directorial role with “La Primavera,” following his debut feature “Itaker – Vietato agli italiani” in 2012. Trupia’s career includes significant collaborations, notably as assistant director to Michele Placido on “Romanzo Criminale” in 2005, and as a screenwriter for Placido’s “Vallanzasca – Gli Angeli del male” and “7 minuti.”

As “La Primavera” wraps up its final days of shooting in Trieste, the film promises to be a compelling exploration of identity, heritage, and the human spirit.
