In the ornate halls of the Museum of Oriental Art, Trieste officially announced its plans for the highly anticipated 30th edition of its Carnival. Spearheaded by the city’s Promotion and Cultural Events councilor, Giorgio Rossi, the event promises to be a grand affair, with the Masked Parade and the prestigious Palio taking center stage.
Backed by the Municipality of Trieste, the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, and Trieste Trasporti, the Carnival boasts a robust program of events, ensuring there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Commencing on February 4th, the festivities will commence with the traditional Key Ceremony, a symbolic handover of the city’s keys in Piazza dell’Unità d’Italia.
One of the exciting additions this year is the introduction of the Bavisela di Carnevale, a fusion of carnival revelry and sportsmanship. Participants will traverse the vibrant streets of Trieste, marking a new chapter in the Carnival’s history.
Central to the celebrations are the schools and community groups, reflecting Trieste’s deep-rooted carnival culture. From Servola to San Giacomo, neighborhoods will come alive with the spirit of Carnival, showcasing elaborate costumes and floats.
