League’s Massimiliano Fedriga reclaimed his position as the governor of Friuli Venezia Giulia in Monday’s regional elections, backed by a center-right alliance.
At 3 pm the polls closed in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, where regional and 24 municipal elections were voted, including those in Udine and Sacile (Pordenone). The first exit polls began to circulate, published by some local media, which gave the outgoing governor, Massimiliano Fedriga, a center-right candidate between 61 and 65%. Massimo Moretuzzo (center left) is between 28 and 32%, Alessandro Maran (third pole) between 3 and 5%, Giorgia Tripoli (free joint, supported by the no vax movement) between 2 and 4%. The alliance between the Democratic Party and the 5 Star Movement proved therefore erroneous – the first electoral setback for the new secretary Elly Schlein.
After the first exit polls, the Democratic Party and the 5 Star Movement candidate Massimo Moretuzzo, the outgoing regional councilor and secretary of the Pact for Autonomy, admitted defeat and congratulated Fedriga.
The new regional council will consist of 48 councillors, two of which are the region’s president and the first unelected opponent. The other 46 seats are allocated to lists at regional level and then distributed, according to the proportional method, among candidates for councilors in the five constituencies into which the regional territory is divided: Trieste 9 councillors, Gorizia 5, Udine 17, Tolmezzo 3 , Pordenone 12.
Massimiliano Fedriga becomes the first ever president to be relected for the second term in Friuli Venezia-Giulia.
