Pallacanestro Trieste, the city’s Serie A1 basketball team, was presented Wednesday at the “Io Sono Friuli Venezia Giulia” stand in Piazza Unità d’Italia as part of the Barcolana events.

The presentation brought together regional officials, team representatives and a large group of supporters in one of Trieste’s most prominent public spaces.

Sergio Emidio Bini, the regional councilor for productive activities and tourism, said the team’s long history and presence in Italy’s top basketball division made it an important symbol for the city and the region. He also pointed to Trieste’s strong home attendance, which he said ranks second nationally.

The event was attended by Fabio Scoccimarro, the regional councilor for environmental protection, as well as Pallacanestro Trieste general manager Michael Arcieri.

Bini praised Arcieri for his work with the club in recent years, including during periods of difficulty, and emphasized the connection between the team and the city.

The presentation was held in Piazza Unità d’Italia during Barcolana, the annual sailing event that draws thousands of visitors to Trieste. Bini said the setting gave the basketball event added significance, bringing together two of the city’s most visible sporting traditions.

The large turnout of supporters underscored the popularity of basketball in Trieste and the role of Pallacanestro Trieste as a prominent part of the city’s sporting identity.
