The Friuli Venezia Giulia regional government has opened applications for a new €950,000 grant program aimed at preserving and restoring the region’s historic businesses and commercial venues, with applications accepted through Oct. 15.
The initiative, introduced under the Regional Code of Commerce and Tourism, is designed to support businesses recognized for their historical and cultural significance. According to the regional government, 465 historic businesses and venues are currently listed across Friuli Venezia Giulia, including 246 in the province of Udine, 85 in Trieste, 79 in Pordenone and 55 in Gorizia.
Regional Production and Tourism Councilor Sergio Emidio Bini said the program is intended to help long-established businesses remain economically viable while preserving their original character and traditions.
The funding is divided into €450,000 for current expenditures and €500,000 for capital investments. Eligible applicants include owners and operators of businesses and venues already registered on the regional list at the time of application.
For historic venues, grants may be used to restore buildings, storefront signs, furniture, machinery, decorative finishes and original architectural features. Historic businesses may apply for support to restore signs, equipment and machinery. Only projects with eligible expenses of at least €5,000 qualify, while routine upgrades required by law are excluded.
The grants can cover up to 80 percent of eligible costs, with a maximum contribution of €15,000 for building restoration and €5,000 for work involving signs, furnishings, machinery and original decorative elements.
Applications must be submitted online through the regional Istanze on Line portal by 4 p.m. on Oct. 15, 2026. Funding will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis under the European Union’s de minimis state aid rules and may be combined with other eligible public funding.
