The Municipality of Trieste has issued a public ozone alert after forecasts from the Regional Environmental Protection Agency of Friuli Venezia Giulia (ARPA FVG) indicated that ozone concentrations are expected to remain above the target level throughout the coming week.
According to the latest projections, ozone levels are forecast to exceed the target value of 120 micrograms per cubic meter (µg/m³) for the entire week.
In accordance with the city’s Air Quality Action Plan, adopted in 2013, municipal authorities are urging residents to take precautions to reduce exposure to the pollutant. The advisory is aimed particularly at vulnerable groups, including older adults, children and people with respiratory or cardiovascular conditions.
Officials recommend limiting prolonged outdoor activities during periods of elevated ozone concentrations until air quality improves.
