For two days in May, Piazza Unità will trade ceremony for circuitry. On May 9 and 10, the 13th edition of Maker Faire Trieste will transform the seafront square into an open-air hub of invention, bringing together more than 450 makers, scientists and digital artisans from across Europe and beyond. Organized by the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) and the City of Trieste, the event highlights the region’s long-standing identity as a center for research and innovation.
The program spans hands-on experiments, robotics demonstrations and interactive workshops, many designed with students and families in mind. A parallel lineup blends science with pop culture, including game design labs, film-inspired talks and a live quiz night.
City officials describe the fair as both a showcase and a bridge — connecting academic research with everyday life, and inviting the public to engage with emerging technologies in an accessible setting.
Free and open to all, the event continues Trieste’s tradition of bringing science out of the lab and into the square.
