On March 5, the frescoed halls of Villa Manin in Passariano will serve as an unlikely stage for a modern ritual of economic life: the job interview.

Lidl Italia, in partnership with the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, is hosting a recruiting day to fill 60 positions across its stores in the provinces of Udine and Pordenone, ahead of the busy summer season. Applications are open through Feb. 24.

Speaking in Udine on Sunday, Alessia Rosolen, the regional councillor for labor, described the initiative as “a concrete example” of how the region has worked alongside private companies to build training pathways that accompany workers both before and after hiring — with the goal of stable, quality employment.

For the regional government, Lidl has become what Ms. Rosolen called a “special partner,” particularly for its attention to youth and female employment. Data from last year’s recruiting campaign with the German retailer, she noted, underscored both the age and gender profile of those hired, reinforcing the region’s focus on these groups.

In 2024, Friuli Venezia Giulia allocated roughly €10 million to active labor policies supporting young people and women, as well as workers emerging from corporate crises and students in dual apprenticeship programs. Lidl, Ms. Rosolen added, has for several years offered specialized training programs tied to higher-education and research apprenticeships, giving students a pathway to permanent employment at the end of their studies.

Central to the region’s approach is an integrated system that links employment centers, targeted job placement services and professional training programs. For the first time, Ms. Rosolen said, specific incentives have been introduced to encourage the reintegration of workers coming from companies in crisis — allowing businesses to recover skills and experience that might otherwise be lost.

The positions available range from store operators and sales assistants — including roles reserved under Law 68/99 for workers with disabilities — to on-call sales staff, assistant store managers and warehouse goods preparers.

Candidates must submit a résumé by Feb. 24. After a preselection process, shortlisted applicants will receive an email between Feb. 26 and March 4 confirming their interview time at Villa Manin on Thursday, March 5.
