Interview: Tommasso Russo, representative of the Comitato a difesa della Costituzione
On 20.1. in Trieste, the Comitato a difesa della costituzione, CGIL, Comitato Avvocati per il No and other civil society groups called for a NO vote in the upcoming referendum, warning that the reform risks weakening democracy rather than fixing justice.
Behind the promise of efficiency, they see no solutions to real problems: staff shortages, precarious contracts, aging offices and chronic underinvestment in digital tools.
Instead, the reform reshapes judicial self-governance, splits the CSM, creates a powerful High Disciplinary Court and increases political influence over magistrates.
Critics fear a justice system harsher on ordinary citizens and more lenient toward those in power, higher public costs, and a dangerous erosion of the separation of powers enshrined in the Constitution.
