Train passengers across Italy are facing widespread disruption this Saturday morning as a nationwide strike by railway workers continues to affect services throughout the country.
The 24-hour walkout, involving both train crews and rail infrastructure staff, began Friday night and is scheduled to run through late Saturday evening. Major operators — Trenitalia, Italo and Trenord — have all reported cancellations and delays, while Rete Ferroviaria Italiana, the national rail infrastructure manager, warned that the strike “may lead to changes to services” throughout the day.
Rail companies have put in place limited guaranteed services. Italo has published a list of trains operating during the strike, while Trenord, which serves much of Lombardy, said buses would be provided if airport-bound trains, including those to Milan’s airports, are canceled.
Passengers traveling by rail on Saturday are being urged to check updated timetables and real-time information on operators’ official websites and mobile apps before leaving for stations, as schedules remain subject to last-minute changes.
The strike follows a series of walkouts on Friday that disrupted air travel across Italy, leaving parts of the country’s transport system under strain going into the weekend.
Official updates on strikes and public-transport disruptions are published by the Italian government on the transport ministry website.
