During the 37th edition of the Trieste Film Festival, Hangar Teatri will host a concert by Doppelgänger, an Italian-Bosnian rapper who has emerged as one of the most visible voices of the contemporary Balkan music scene. The performance is scheduled for Saturday, January 17, at 9 p.m., with opening and closing DJ sets by the Trieste-based collective Let’s Get in Touch.
Born in Rome in 2000 to Bosnian parents, Doppelgänger—whose real name is Alen Đokić—has built a large international following through social media, particularly TikTok, where he first gained widespread attention in 2021. His music blends Italian, English, and Bosnian, reflecting the experience of a generation shaped by post-Yugoslav diaspora. He has collaborated with prominent artists from the region, including Frenkie, Dubioza Kolektiv, and Dafina Zeqiri, and has released several EPs under the Balkan Represent series, which together have generated more than two million streams on Spotify. His most recent release, “Balkan Represent Vol. 3,” came out in December 2024.
As part of the festival’s broader cultural program, Doppelgänger will also take part in a public conversation with the writer and illustrator Boban Pesov on January 23 at 5 p.m. at the Lovat Bookstore, marking the presentation of Pesov’s graphic novel C’era una volta l’Est (Once Upon a Time in the East). The discussion will focus on themes of migration, identity, and contemporary urban culture.
Tickets for the concert cost €15 (or €12 for Trieste Film Festival pass holders) and are available through Hangar Teatri and online ticketing platforms. The event is part of La Stagione delle Onde, a program supported by Italy’s Ministry of Culture and the Friuli Venezia Giulia regional government.
