Trieste’s Politeama Rossetti will host the awards ceremony for the 25th edition of the Trieste Science+Fiction Festival this evening, Sunday, Nov. 2, at 8:30 p.m., marking a milestone year for Italy’s leading showcase dedicated to science fiction and the fantastical in film.
Several key honors will be presented during the ceremony. The Asteroide Award, given to the best science fiction, fantasy or horror film by an emerging director, remains the festival’s hallmark distinction. European productions will also be recognized with the Méliès d’Argent awards for best feature and short film in the fantastical genre. Additional honors include Rai4’s Wonderland Award, the CineLab Spazio Corto Award, and the Italian National Union of Film Critics (SNCCI) prize for best debut feature. Audience engagement plays a central role as well: the festival’s public award for best feature in the Neon section will go to the film receiving the highest number of votes from theatergoers.
Following the ceremony, the festival will close with a special out-of-competition screening of Chien 51 (France, 2025), directed by Cédric Jimenez. The dystopian thriller imagines a Paris divided into three socio-economic zones and policed by an artificial intelligence system known as ALMA. When the AI’s creator is murdered, two detectives are compelled to investigate, unraveling tensions among class, power and technology in a fractured near-future metropolis.
