The Civil Protection Department has issued a yellow weather alert across the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, in effect from 3 p.m. on Thursday, October 23, until 7 a.m. on Friday, October 24, due to forecasts of heavy rain and strong winds. Authorities warn of potential hydrogeological and hydraulic risks as the weather system moves through the area.

Starting Thursday afternoon and continuing into the evening, intense rainfall — including thunderstorms — is expected, particularly in the mountain areas. The Julian Prealps are likely to experience the heaviest downpours for several hours. Rainfall will be moderate to heavy across the plains and lighter along the coast and southern areas.

Strong southeasterly winds (Scirocco) are expected to blow along the coast, shifting to southwesterly (Libeccio) later in the evening, with gusts that could reach strong to gale force levels. Coastal areas may also experience rough seas and possible storm surges.

In the mountains, winds will be particularly strong at higher altitudes, with powerful gusts potentially reaching the valleys. Snow levels are expected to remain above 2,500 meters until late evening, dropping to around 1,500 meters as the disturbance moves out of the region, likely around midnight.

Weather conditions are expected to improve overnight, with Friday bringing variable skies and the possibility of scattered showers.

Authorities advise residents to remain cautious, particularly in flood-prone or landslide-risk areas, and to follow updates from local emergency services.
