Travelers in Italy this October should prepare for a wave of transport strikes that could disrupt air travel, trains and local public transport services across the country.

Below are the main strike actions scheduled for October 2025.

October 3: General Strike
A 24-hour nationwide strike is expected to affect rail services operated by Trenitalia, Italo, and Trenord from 9 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 2, until the same time on Friday, Oct. 3.

Italy’s national railway company, Ferrovie dello Stato, said in a statement that changes to schedules could occur “even before and after” the official strike period. Regional rail services are guaranteed during weekday strikes from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The strike was called by the S.I. Cobas trade union, citing support for “the Palestinian resistance” and a demand to end “the genocide” in Gaza.

October 13: Airport Staff Strike in Rome
Air travel through Rome may be disrupted on Monday, Oct. 13, due to a four-hour strike by employees of Aeroporti di Roma (AdR), which manages the capital’s Fiumicino and Ciampino airports.

The strike, called by the FAST and CONFSAL unions, will run from noon until 4 p.m.

October 29: Airport Strikes in Milan, Florence and Pisa
Passengers traveling through Milan Linate, Florence, and Pisa airports on Wednesday, Oct. 29, may encounter disruption due to a 24-hour strike organized by several trade unions representing airport staff.

Updates on strike activity in Italy are published regularly. For official information, see the Transport Ministry website.
