The regional government of Friuli Venezia Giulia has announced a new funding initiative to expand after-school services, with a particular emphasis on accessibility and support for children with disabilities.

Regional Councillor for Family, Alessia Rosolen, said the measure builds on last year’s program, with additional resources now available to reach a broader number of communities. “The goal is to provide families with another tool to balance work and family life, while also supporting parenting,” she said.

The call for applications, open from October 1 to October 30, 2025, is directed at organizations in the Third Sector and nonprofit associations (Onlus) registered under Italy’s National Register of the Third Sector. Eligible groups must have a legal or secondary office in Friuli Venezia Giulia. Applications must be submitted online through the regional government’s Istanze On Line system.

The program will allocate €1,156,644 in financial resources. Grants can cover up to 90 percent of project costs, with a maximum of €65,000 per initiative. Funding is calculated at €250 per week for groups of at least ten children, with additional support available for the inclusion of students with disabilities. An extra €10 per hour, up to €15,000, is available to cover the cost of dedicated tutors for students requiring assistance.

To qualify, after-school programs must run for at least seven months between September 2025 and September 2026. Each project must serve at least ten students, though exceptions will be made for small and mountain communities with fewer than 2,000 residents. Programs must also guarantee a minimum of eight hours of service per week across at least two days.

Staffing requirements include one coordinator, at least one tutor with a secondary school diploma for academic activities, and one supervisor for every 20 participants.

The initiative reflects a growing effort by the region to support families while ensuring equal access to educational and social opportunities. Special provisions for rural and interior areas underscore the government’s commitment to reaching smaller, often underserved communities.
