About 400 people gathered on Saturday at Trieste’s Molo Audace pier to show support for the Global Sumud Flotilla, an international initiative seeking to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza.
The demonstration, organized by local associations, brought together both younger and older residents carrying Palestinian and peace flags. Participants called for an end to civilian deaths in Gaza and for humanitarian access to the territory.
The May 27th and July 29th Committee, a civic group active in Trieste, later distanced itself from the event, citing concerns over what it described as antisemitic slogans voiced by some in the crowd.
Police said attendance peaked at about 400 people.
The Global Sumud Flotilla, supported by international NGOs, is the latest attempt to challenge the blockade of Gaza through aid shipments by sea, a tactic that has repeatedly drawn international scrutiny.
