The city of Trieste will continue its summer cultural programming into early September, offering a variety of events ranging from music and theater to performance art. Trieste Estate, organized by the Comune di Trieste, will host a series of performances from Monday, September 1, through Sunday, September 7, at venues across the city, including the Giardino del Museo Sartorio and Teatro Verdi.

The week opens on Monday, September 1, with Magic Light ’70 & ’80 Vibes: When I Was Young at the Giardino del Museo Sartorio. The evening, featuring the band Zippo & The Followers and a concluding DJ set, revisits the music of the 1970s and 1980s, spanning rock, new wave, dance, and electronic music. The lineup includes songs from Supertramp, U2, Sade, The Cure, and Simply Red.

On Tuesday, September 2, the museum garden will host Umberto Boccioni e Gran Serata Futurista, a performance celebrating the 116th anniversary of the Futurist movement. Actor and director Massimiliano Finazzer Flory will present a monologue interspersed with contemporary dance, bringing to life key texts of the Futurist literary movement. In the event of rain, the performance will move indoors to Sala Luttazzi at Magazzino 26.

Wednesday, September 3, features Riflessi Sonori – Golden Sound Flute Quintet in Concert, an interactive musical project presented by the Trieste Flute Association. The quintet will perform compositions by Puccini, Debussy, Mussorgsky, and Ravel.

Thursday, September 4, concludes the Piano Days series with American pianist and composer Roger Alden Anderson in Between the Keys. The recital blends classical traditions with jazz improvisation, creating a performance that appeals to both seasoned listeners and new audiences. Anderson, a graduate of Westminster Choir College and New York University, has more than 30 years of experience as a composer, conductor, and educator.

On Friday, September 5, the annual Premio Franco Russo will take place at the Casa della Musica at 6 p.m., recognizing emerging jazz talent. This year’s recipient is bassist Elettra Pizzale, who will perform with renowned Italian pianist Enrico Zanisi. Later that evening, the Trieste Poetry Slam will take place at the Giardino del Museo Sartorio, featuring six poets performing original pieces before a jury drawn from the audience. A separate streaming event will showcase violinist Giulia Rimonda as part of the Festival di Trieste – Il Faro della Musica.

Saturday, September 6, offers two events: the Gran Ballo di Gala Straussiano at Teatro Lirico Giuseppe Verdi, celebrating the 200th anniversary of Johann Strauss, and the concert-performance Pace – Svuotare di arsenali, riempire i granai at the Giardino del Museo Sartorio, which reflects on peace and resistance to war through music and philosophy.

The week concludes on Sunday, September 7, with a concert by violinist Maxim Vengerov and pianist Polina Osetinskaya at the Generali Convention Center, preceded by a discussion titled Note d’Artista at Teatro Verdi. At the Giardino del Museo Sartorio, the performance La Donna è come un fior will explore the life and romantic philosophy of Giacomo Casanova through music and storytelling in honor of the 300th anniversary of his birth.

Trieste’s early September schedule reflects the city’s commitment to presenting diverse cultural experiences that combine history, music, literature, and performance art, accessible to both local residents and visitors.
