The Noghere sports complex, managed by the Tiro a Volo sporting association, will host this weekend’s 24th annual Vespa Club Trieste and Gatti Randagi rally, an event that has long drawn enthusiasts from across Italy and abroad.
Traditionally held on the Karst plateau, the gathering has moved to a new venue this year but will maintain its familiar mix of music, food, and scooter culture. Riders from Austria, Croatia, Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, and Hungary are expected to join Italian participants, filling the city and surrounding countryside with the distinctive buzz of Piaggio’s iconic two-wheelers.
The Vespa, a symbol of postwar Italian style and ingenuity, remains deeply embedded in the popular imagination. Many owners personalize their scooters with unusual accessories, turning the rides into rolling showcases of creativity.
The program includes two “Vespa Runs,” one on Saturday afternoon and another on Sunday morning, offering riders the chance to traverse some of Trieste’s most scenic roads and landmarks. Evening events will feature a vinyl DJ set on Friday and live music on Saturday, alongside communal meals and barbecues open to both riders and visitors.
The schedule begins Friday at 4 p.m. with the official welcome, followed by the opening of food stands at 7 p.m. and music at 9 p.m. Saturday’s highlights include the opening of exhibition areas at 10 a.m., guided rides beginning at 10:30 a.m., a 45-kilometer Vespa Run at 3:30 p.m., and skill-based games in the early evening, with live music to follow. On Sunday, the final ride departs at 10 a.m., with closing ceremonies scheduled for 4 p.m.
The rally, a late-summer tradition in Trieste, continues to serve as both a celebration of a storied scooter and an occasion for community gathering, drawing spectators as well as riders.
