This August, Trieste’s storied Castello di San Giusto will open its walls and bastions for a series of evening tours, offering visitors a chance to explore centuries of history against the backdrop of one of the city’s most striking views.

Part of the cultural program L’ora di storia (“The History Hour”), the guided walks will take place on Thursdays, August 14, 21, and 28 at 7 p.m. Led by an expert from the castle’s museum, the one-hour tours will trace the history of the hilltop fortress and the city it has long guarded, culminating in a panoramic 360-degree vista over Trieste from atop the ramparts.

Admission is free, and participants are encouraged to linger afterward at the Bastione Rotondo. On those evenings, the bastion’s bar will remain open until midnight, serving drinks in an open-air setting that frames the city, the gulf, and the surrounding hills. The combination of twilight, history, and elevated vantage point aims to create what organizers describe as a uniquely Triestine experience.

The initiative is organized by the Municipality of Trieste—Museo del Castello di San Giusto—in collaboration with Midnight – Bar Bastione, as part of the summer evening openings of the panoramic bar.
