The Biblioteca Civica Attilio Hortis has issued a notice asking all patrons to return borrowed books by August 31, 2025, as the city prepares to resume renovation work on its historic home, Palazzo Biserini.

The directive applies to all volumes currently on loan that are not part of the library’s main reference collection. The early return is required to facilitate the safe transfer and storage of materials ahead of the next phase of refurbishment at the 18th-century palace, which has housed the library since the 19th century.

Library users are encouraged to check their records and return any outstanding books to the main desk at Biblioteca Hortis during regular opening hours: Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

For additional information, the library can be reached by phone at +39 040 675 8412 or by email at bib.hortis@comune.trieste.it.

The library also noted that services may be temporarily reduced during the transition period as books are relocated and catalogued. An update on the full timeline for renovations and service resumption is expected later this year.
