The San Giacomo district of Trieste is preparing for a festive three-day celebration from Thursday, July 24, through Saturday, July 26, in honor of its patron saint. The event, titled San Giacomo in Festa, will feature live music, artisan markets, and a range of activities for all ages, transforming one of the city’s most historic neighborhoods into a vibrant hub of community life.
The initiative was officially presented on Monday morning at Trieste’s City Hall in a press conference attended by Deputy Mayor and Economic Policy Commissioner Serena Tonel, Elena Pellaschiar of the provincial Confcommercio trade association, and Father Rudi Sabadin, parish priest of the Church of San Giacomo Apostolo.
The program aims to blend cultural tradition with opportunities for social interaction, reinforcing San Giacomo’s identity as a lively and inclusive area. “This is not just a celebration, but also an opportunity to promote local commerce and community spirit,” said Tonel during the briefing.
Markets selling artisanal goods and local products will line the streets, while a schedule of live performances and interactive events is designed to appeal to residents and visitors alike. Organizers emphasized the inclusive nature of the festivities, with entertainment ranging from children’s activities to evening concerts.
The festival coincides with the feast day of Saint James, one of the twelve apostles, who is especially venerated in many parts of Europe, including this corner of northeastern Italy.
San Giacomo in Festa is supported by the municipal administration in collaboration with local businesses and the parish community. Entry to events is free, and the full schedule will be made available on the city’s website and at information points in the neighborhood.
