The international literary festival “Barcolana – Un mare di racconti” will return to Trieste this fall for its seventh edition, welcoming some of the most celebrated voices in contemporary literature. Scheduled from Tuesday, October 7 to Saturday, October 11, the festival will once again transform the city into a meeting point for readers and writers from around the world.

Hosted at the Magazzino delle Idee in the heart of Trieste, the event will open with a special preview on Monday, October 6 at 6:00 p.m., followed by four daily sessions starting each afternoon at 4:30 p.m.

This year’s lineup features a roster of internationally acclaimed authors, including Cristina Rivera Garza, the 2024 Pulitzer Prize winner; Mircea Cărtărescu, a leading voice in Romanian literature; German-Czech writer Esther Kinsky; Italian novelist Emanuele Trevi; and Dutch author Ilja Leonard Pfeijffer. Their participation underscores the festival’s commitment to fostering dialogue across cultures and languages.

“Un mare di racconti” is part of the broader cultural program surrounding the Barcolana, Trieste’s iconic sailing regatta that annually draws thousands of participants and spectators to the Adriatic coast. The festival is supported by the Fondazione CRTrieste and the Municipality of Trieste.

Now in its seventh year, the festival continues to strengthen Trieste’s role as a crossroads of literature and ideas, providing an open forum for writers to explore both the literary and the geopolitical tides shaping our world today.
