Tourism in the Collio area of Friuli Venezia Giulia is experiencing steady growth, with regional authorities reporting a 12.5 percent increase in visitor numbers during the first six months of the year.
At a meeting held in Cormons with local mayors and business leaders, Sergio Emidio Bini, Regional Councillor for Productive Activities and Tourism, described Collio as a strategic example of how collaboration among municipalities can drive regional development. “The region strongly believes in the potential of Collio’s tourism sector, and the foresight shown by local administrators in creating a unified system is becoming a model across Friuli Venezia Giulia,” Bini said.
The regional government has introduced several initiatives aimed at supporting this growth. Among them is a new program designed to encourage the establishment of four- and five-star hotels, in an effort to expand the area’s hospitality offerings.
Situated near the Slovenian border and known for its vineyards and rural landscapes, the Collio has increasingly responded to rising demand for sustainable and experiential tourism. Bini noted that the area offers a more affordable alternative to major Italian cities, while still providing authentic and high-quality experiences.
The region’s strategy aligns with broader efforts to promote tourism beyond traditional urban centers, emphasizing local identity, environmental stewardship, and long-term economic sustainability.
