After several days of stable summer weather, Friuli Venezia Giulia is poised for a shift as a weakening high-pressure system gives way to a cooler, more unstable Atlantic front.
Meteorologists from the regional weather service report that the anticyclonic ridge currently dominating the area is slowly moving eastward, opening the door to a trough of low pressure from the North Atlantic. Between Monday and Tuesday, a localized depression is expected to form south of the Alps, gradually moving over the Tyrrhenian Sea as high pressure begins to rebuild across continental Europe.
This evolving setup will bring variable cloud cover across the region, with intermittent rain showers and thunderstorms likely to develop as early as late Monday night. “The risk of intense weather events is not negligible,” warned local forecasters, noting the possibility of strong thunderstorms with heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and localized hail.
Winds are expected to pick up sporadically as the system pushes through, especially in the coastal and pre-Alpine areas.
Authorities recommend caution for residents and travelers, particularly in areas prone to flash flooding or storm damage. Emergency services remain on alert for potential disruptions.
While the storm system is not expected to linger long, its intensity may leave a brief but noticeable mark on what has otherwise been a stretch of calm early summer days in Friuli Venezia Giulia.
