In a bid to streamline logistics and improve traffic management, the Port System Authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea and Autostrade Alto Adriatico have signed a landmark agreement to collaborate on experimental digital systems for monitoring and managing heavy vehicle flows between highways and port areas.

The agreement, signed at the Trieste headquarters of Autostrade Alto Adriatico by President Marco Monaco and the Port Authority’s special commissioner, Vittorio Torbianelli, marks the first such partnership between the two organizations. The initiative aims to facilitate more efficient information exchange through integrated digital platforms, with the goal of improving service for users and optimizing traffic operations.

“This agreement is the result of a series of strategic meetings between two key players in the national logistics sector,” said Monaco. “Sharing knowledge and aligning innovative plans is crucial for achieving results that benefit the broader logistics community.”

The partnership reflects a growing focus on integrated logistics management across northeastern Italy, particularly in light of increasing freight volumes and the region’s strategic role in European trade corridors.

“Improving the efficiency of road traffic connected to port operations through digital tools is a key priority,” said Torbianelli. “Our focus must extend beyond the immediate port areas and include the entire route taken by heavy vehicles. This agreement represents an important step in that direction.”

Future developments are expected to include technological upgrades at port entry points and other infrastructure nodes, aimed at reducing bottlenecks and enhancing real-time data sharing among stakeholders.

The pilot phase of the collaboration will explore practical applications for digital tools, with the possibility of scaling successful models to other logistics hubs in the region.
