Two nature photography exhibitions remain open to the public through Sunday, May 4, at Magazzino 26 in Porto Vecchio – Porto Vivo, part of a broader cultural initiative supported by the Municipality of Trieste’s Department of Culture and Tourism. The exhibitions, “Asferico” and “Terraemare,” are housed in the Sbisà and Fini halls, respectively. A third show, Living as Memory by Italian photographer Rossano B. Maniscalchi, has been extended and will run through May 25 in the Nathan Hall.

The “Asferico” exhibition in Sala Sbisà showcases the finalist images from the 18th edition of the Asferico International Nature Photography Competition, considered one of the most prestigious contests of its kind worldwide. Organized by the Italian Association of Nature Photographers (AFNI), the competition receives approximately 18,000 submissions each year from top wildlife and landscape photographers around the globe. The exhibit offers a vibrant visual journey through sweeping landscapes, birds in flight, blooming flora, insects in close-up, and mammals in motion.

“Terraemare,” featured in Sala Fini, presents a local project by photographers from the Friuli Venezia Giulia region. The series, titled TerræMare: Coastal Zones of Friuli Venezia Giulia, captures the unique beauty and biodiversity of the regional coastline, shaped by the ever-present influence of the Adriatic Sea. The photographs span the seasons and depict the flora, fauna, and shifting light of these ecologically rich territories.

The exhibit also includes a short naturalistic introduction to the region’s coastal environment, curated by naturalist, author, and science communicator Michele Zanetti.

Visitors are reminded that due to road closures associated with the Trieste Spring Run 2025 on Sunday, May 4, the temporary exhibitions at Magazzino 26 and the nearby Museum of the Sea will be open to the public from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

All exhibitions are free of charge.
