In a bid to expand its global presence, the region of Friuli Venezia Giulia has brought 39 of its top wineries to ProWein, one of the world’s most prestigious trade fairs for wine and spirits. The event, which runs through March 18, serves as a key platform for winemakers to connect with international buyers and industry professionals.
“ProWein is a strategic showcase for our companies: here, we measure international market trends and assess opportunities for the growth of the entire wine sector in Friuli Venezia Giulia,” said Stefano Zannier, the region’s Councillor for Agricultural and Forestry Resources, at the opening of the region’s exhibition stand.
The regional booth, branded “Io Sono Friuli Venezia Giulia,” has been developed through a collaboration between Ersa, the regional agency for agricultural development, and PromoTurismoFVG. Throughout the three-day event, professional sommeliers will guide tastings at the Regional Enoteca, while tourism representatives will introduce visitors to the region’s culinary and travel offerings.
Two key events are scheduled for Monday, March 17. A masterclass led by wine expert Paolo Sivilotti will explore six wines that exemplify the region’s diverse terroirs and microclimates. Later that evening, a welcome reception featuring live music and tastings of traditional regional products will provide a relaxed setting for networking among industry insiders.
ProWein marks the second major international event of 2025 for Friuli Venezia Giulia’s wine industry, following Wine Paris & Vinexpo Paris in February. Next on the calendar is Vinitaly, Italy’s largest wine trade show, where 90 wineries from the region—including organic producers—will exhibit from April 6 to 9.
The fair’s presence is part of a broader initiative coordinated by Ersa and PromoTurismoFVG to support regional winemakers in accessing global markets. “Our goal is not just to showcase our wines, but to elevate the profile of Friuli Venezia Giulia as a world-class wine-producing region and a destination for enogastronomic tourism,” Zannier said.
As the global wine market continues to evolve, Friuli Venezia Giulia is staking its claim, ensuring that its wines—long praised for their quality and distinctiveness—receive the attention they deserve on the international stage.
