Authorities in Trieste have launched a public awareness campaign aimed at protecting vulnerable individuals, particularly the elderly, from financial scams. The initiative, titled “Safety is Health – Scams: Better to Prevent,” is a collaboration between the Trieste Police Headquarters and Federfarma Trieste, the association representing local pharmacies.

At a press conference on Thursday, Police Commissioner Pietro Ostuni and Federfarma President Marcello Milani outlined the initiative, which seeks to educate potential victims and their communities about common fraudulent schemes. Officials noted that scams targeting the elderly remain a persistent issue in the region, with recent cases underscoring the need for increased vigilance.

Pharmacies will play a central role in the initiative, serving as key distribution points for informational materials. With approximately 70 pharmacies participating across the province, customers will have access to posters and brochures outlining common scam techniques and prevention strategies. The materials also offer guidance for family members and neighbors, encouraging them to support elderly individuals in recognizing and avoiding fraud.

Authorities are urging the public to remain alert and to report any suspicious activity immediately. In case of concern, individuals are advised to contact the European Emergency Number 112 for prompt police assistance.
