In a collaborative effort aimed at enriching the cultural landscape of Trieste, the municipality, led by Councillor Giorgio Rossi, partnered with the Society for Prehistory and Protohistory of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region (SPP-FVG) to introduce the “Prehistory 2024” conference series.
The unveiling took place this morning at the Museum of Oriental Art, with key figures including Rossi, Paolo Paronuzzi, President of SPP-FVG, retired professor Fabio Crosilla, and Patrizia Fasolato, Head Cultural Coordinator for Organizational Position at Scientific Museums, in attendance.
The initiative, a testament to Trieste’s commitment to accessible culture, seeks to democratize knowledge by bringing forth discussions on prehistoric and protohistoric archaeology to a broader audience. Rossi’s emphasis on inclusivity reflects a departure from elitist tendencies, instead opting for exhibitions and events that resonate with the wider community.
Fasolato highlighted the longstanding partnership between SPP-FVG and the municipality, particularly with the Museum of Natural History, as integral to the success of such endeavors. Paronuzzi expressed gratitude for Trieste’s willingness to embrace local archaeology, signaling a revival of interest in the region’s rich historical heritage.
The “Prehistory 2024” series promises a deep dive into regional archaeology, with a focus on hillfort settlements, pivotal to understanding ancient landscapes. Distinguished speakers, including archaeologists from neighboring Slovenia and esteemed professors from Italian universities, will contribute to the discourse, underscoring the interdisciplinary nature of the conference.
Scheduled to run throughout the year, the conference series offers Trieste residents and visitors alike a unique opportunity to engage with cutting-edge research and discoveries in the field of prehistoric studies. For those eager to participate, the Civic Museum of Natural History will host the events, with free admission on a first-come, first-served basis.
As Trieste embarks on this intellectual journey, “Prehistory 2024” stands as a beacon of cultural enrichment and scholarly exchange, inviting all to explore the depths of our shared human history.
