In a move to enhance safety across the city, Urban Planning Commissioner Michele Babuder announces a $270,000 initiative to construct protected crosswalks. The focus is on Viale Miramare, with four key crossings near popular establishments, including “Old Wild West” and “Ottavo Nano” bar.
Beyond Miramare, the project includes sidewalk reconstruction on Strada di Fiume, flowerbed repaving at Piazzale Gioberti, and sidewalk expansion at the Piccardi-Revoltella intersection. These interventions, driven by community input, aim to elevate pedestrian and vehicle safety citywide.
Each new crosswalk will feature a protected pedestrian passage to moderate vehicle speed, aligning with existing locations. Public transport stops will be relocated, and new motorcycle parking spaces added strategically.
Accessibility is a priority, with sidewalk ramps for limited mobility individuals and tactile-plantar pavement. Yellow flashing lights on signs near lifebuoy islands will warn motorists.
This proactive safety initiative, responding to community concerns, marks a positive start to the New Year. Construction bids are anticipated this month, signaling a significant step forward in urban safety.
