In a milestone event Tuesday morning, Mayor Roberto Dipiazza and Zeno D’Agostino, President of the Eastern Adriatic Sea Port Authority, inked a crucial agreement at the Electric Substation in Porto Vecchio. The agreement, titled “Understanding Protocol between the Municipality of Trieste and the Eastern Adriatic Sea Port Authority (AdSPMAO) for the Temporary Shared Management of the Works for the Implementation of the New Vehicle Connection between Via Italo Svevo and Via Federico Seismit Doda, and between Viale Campi Elisi and Via San Marco.”
Mayor Roberto Dipiazza expressed gratitude to President Zeno D’Agostino and the offices of the Municipality of Trieste, acknowledging their role in resolving a longstanding issue. The agreement addresses the construction of a new vehicular connection between Via Italo Svevo and Via Federico Seismit Doda, and another between Viale Campi Elisi and Via San Marco. These connections are anticipated to alleviate current traffic issues in the areas of Via von Bruck and Via Svevo.
President Zeno D’Agostino emphasized the fundamental importance of these two vehicle connections for both incoming and outgoing traffic at the port. “Those living in that area will be aware,” D’Agostino added, “that we are working towards the direct integration of the new Servola-logistics platform system into the Grand Viability, which is expected to materialize in a few years. The roundabouts address a medium and short-term situation.”
This protocol aligns with the objectives of the Trieste Municipal Urban Mobility Plan (PUMS), aiming to implement measures to enhance vehicular connections, particularly within port and industrial zones.
The shared interest between the Trieste Municipal Administration and the Eastern Adriatic Sea Port Authority, identified through consultations with stakeholders, is to develop a multimodal mobility system. This system aims to integrate public and commercial-industrial relations within the port area, thereby reducing traffic challenges and simultaneously minimizing environmental impacts.
Consequently, the Municipality of Trieste and the Eastern Adriatic Sea Port Authority have identified the opportunity to promote a “Understanding Protocol” to jointly design and implement two new road connections — at the intersection of Via Italo Svevo and Federico Seismit Doda, and at the junction of Viale Campi Elisi and Via San Marco. The goal is to enhance existing traffic flow in terms of safety and efficiency.
The Eastern Adriatic Sea Port Authority will oversee the project activities for the new vehicular connection between Via Italo Svevo and Via Federico Seismit Doda, while the Municipality of Trieste will handle the project activities for the new vehicular connection between Viale Campi Elisi and Via San Marco.
Both the Eastern Adriatic Sea Port Authority and the Municipality of Trieste have allocated funds for the realization of both projects, with an estimated cost of 800,000 euros. The two preliminary projects have already received approval and are currently in the completion phase; construction is expected to commence next year.
