In a collaboration between the Municipality of Trieste and Arthemisia, an extraordinary exhibition dedicated to the universally cherished artist, Vincent van Gogh, is set to captivate art enthusiasts from 22 February on at Museo Revoltella.
This showcase, often hailed as the “record-breaking exhibition,” drew in a staggering 600,000 visitors within a few short months during its stint in Rome. Now, Trieste eagerly anticipates the arrival of this unparalleled artistic experience.
Highlighting the exhibition will be a special addition: the two portraits of Monsieur and Madame Ginoux, proprietors of the famed Arles café frequented by Van Gogh. Created in 1890, these portraits are currently housed at the Kröller-Müller Museum in Otterlo—the generous lender of nearly all the exhibited works—and the Galleria Nazionale in Rome, respectively.
In a unique twist for the Trieste exhibition, the reunited couple, friends, and subjects of Van Gogh’s portraits, will once again come together and share their proximity.
Vincent van Gogh (Zundert, March 30, 1853 – Auvers-sur-Oise, July 29, 1890) led a tumultuous life, teetering on the edge of madness—restless and nomadic—until a tragic end that saw him take his own life at a mere 37 years old.
Much like many great artists, Van Gogh’s work was not fully appreciated during his lifetime. Today, however, he stands as the world’s most renowned artist, an icon in art history, and beloved by audiences far and wide.
Curated by Maria Teresa Benedetti and Francesca Villanti, in collaboration with the Kröller-Müller Museum of Otterlo, the Trieste exhibition will showcase over 50 masterpieces by Van Gogh. The display will be enhanced with extensive educational materials, videos, emotionally charged and visually stunning rooms, and much more, promising an immersive and enlightening experience for all attendees.
