Trieste’s cultural scene is set to sparkle with the debut of a captivating musical fable, “The Devil’s Gold,” at the intimate Sala Victor de Sabata in the Teatro Verdi. Running from December 12, 2023, to March 9, 2024, the production promises to enthrall audiences of all ages.

Crafted by composer Marco Podda and writers Elisabetta D’Erme and Marco Podda, the narrative draws inspiration from the Brothers Grimm’s fairy tale, “The Devil’s Three Golden Hairs.” Commissioned by the Giuseppe Verdi Foundation, this fresh and imaginative work unfolds in the artistic enclave of Trieste.

Under the baton of Conductor and Director Francesco Castellana and directed by Oscar Cecchi, the production marks a collaboration with the “G. Tartini” Conservatory and the “E. and U. Nordio” Artistic High School in Trieste.

The cast, including talents like Giulia Diomede and Antonio De Gobbi, features young voices carefully selected in partnership with the G. Tartini Conservatory, embodying the commitment to fostering emerging talents.

Composer Marco Podda shares his vision: “In contrast to a libretto, where the plot can be summarized on paper, I believe that opera music is a sonic codification of a mix of sensations, emotions, and ideas, best experienced in the theater – the environment dedicated to it.”

The narrative, rooted in the Grimm brothers’ timeless allegory, explores the transformative journey from adolescence to adulthood, tackling themes of good and evil, love, and life challenges. The creators aim to condense this rich tapestry into a one-act, 60-minute masterpiece, providing a unique sensory experience for the audience.

Artistic Director Paolo Rodda expresses his enthusiasm for breaking away from conventional titles, emphasizing the importance of encouraging contemporary creativity in theater.

Sovrintendente Giuliano Polo underlines the collaborative effort between Teatro Verdi and the city’s cultural and educational institutions, striving to provide collective moments of exchange and mutual support for both the audience and budding artists.

Don’t miss the opportunity to witness this magical blend of tradition and innovation with performances scheduled from December 12, 2023, to March 9, 2024, at the Sala Victor de Sabata. Enchanting evenings await, as the Teatro Verdi continues to be a vibrant hub for the city’s cultural growth.
